Aboitiz Renewables, Inc., the renewable energy arm of Aboitiz Power Corporation (AboitizPower), celebrated Earth Month across its host communities in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, conducting several environmental activities in forests, rivers and coastlines.
In Barangay Buhawen, San Marcelino, Zambales, more than 1,000 fruit-bearing seedlings—including guyabano (soursop) and calamansi (Philippine lime)—were planted, restoring green cover and adding a source of food and income for its stewards.
At the same time, along Mt. Apo's Sibulan Trail in Mindanao, 1,000 arabica coffee seedlings were planted under the Kahoy Mo, Kinabuhi Ko (My Tree, My Life) project, done together with Bagobo Tagabawa leaders, local partners, and the Aboitiz Foundation. The coffee biofence serves as a living boundary that protects Mt. Apo's strict protection zones, while also serving as a livelihood for Indigenous families in the area.
"Environmental responsibility thrives on deep collaboration with the communities we serve,” said Aboitiz Renewables Assistant Vice President of Safety, Health and Environment Armando C. Ramos, Jr. “We align our operations with environmental stewardship and we actively partner with local stakeholders to protect vital natural resources.”
Meanwhile, in Tiwi, Albay, volunteers worked with contractors and residents of Barangay Cale to remove 203 kilograms of waste from the Visitang Naga River under the Adopt-an-Estero Program, which seeks to reduce the risk of flooding for the safety of families and their livelihoods.
In the Davao Region, regular cleanups, tree planting, and community information sessions were conducted along the Talomo and Sibulan rivers to help sustain the health of the waterways. This sustained work earned Aboitiz Renewables recognition from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources–Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) XI for its support of the Adopt-an-Estero Program in the region.
Aboitiz Renewables also joined mangrove restoration and coastal cleanup efforts in Calatrava, Negros Occidental, and Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur, planting 200 mangrove seedlings in Barangay Lemery and 500 more at the Bacutan Pawikan Sanctuary and Mangrove Reserve.
Mangrove forests help strengthen coastal habitats, support marine life and protect the nesting grounds of endangered pawikan (sea turtles).
“Together, we are building resilience that ensures a lasting, positive impact on both our people and planet,” Ramos shared.
