1 dead, 8 hurt as AUV rams pedestrians in Leyte

TACLOBAN CITY – A three-year-old child was killed and eight others were injured when an Asian Utility Vehicle rammed pedestrians on Imelda Lane in Barangay Imelda, Tolosa, Leyte, on Friday, April 24.
The victim was a resident of Barangay Cabuynan, Tanauan, Leyte. She was declared dead in a hospital.
Investigation said that the driver lost control of the vehicle, a silver Mitsubishi Adventure, swerved and hit a thrift stall where the victims were, and crashed into the stairs of the town plaza.
Five children aged 1, 5, 7, 9, and 10 were injured and taken to a hospital.
The driver, Tony, 55, of Barangay Balao, Burauen, Leyte, is under police custody. Authorities are conducting follow-up investigation.
