After the avalanche of rumors, Ubisoft has pulled the curtains of “gaming’s worst kept secret,” to reveal the remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, now simply: Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced.
It’s shipping much sooner than expected, on July 9, for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and X, and PC through Steam, Epic Games Store, and the Ubisoft Store.
Many of the original developers of Black Flag have returned for the full remake. It’s also been remade with the Anvil engine, which was the same tech they used to make Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
New story content and expanded characters
Resynced isn’t only a visual refresh. New narrative content has been added, new storylines, which includes stories from different characters, such as Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet. New officers will also be available to join Edward’s journey, bringing new abilities during naval combat.
Gameplay improvements and quality-of-life changes
The original Black Flag had a combat system called paired animation. Basically, this means cool stuff happens based on attacks and blocks. This would allow various cinematic finishers. They were really cool back then, as I recall. But the gameplay may no longer work today. So, Ubisoft revamped that, with a more traditional approach. It still has cool finisher animations but everything feels less floaty.
A new weather system has been added and an expanded underwater exploration.
Stealth missions have been reworked as well. Ubisoft acknowledged this, remembering the pain of these missions, whereupon discovery would result in a defeat. This time around in Resynced, missions will continue despite being discovered and the situation will adapt accordingly. I suppose this means, we can just cause a bit of chaos and get information as soon as possible, so we can get back to sailing.
Ubisoft also proudly boasts in Black Flag Resynced you can freely crouch to reach targets.
Not everything from the original has made the cut. DLC content is out, and multiplayer is gone as well.
Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced will be available on the PS5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC on July 9.
