Housing for teachers: DepEd secures priority access for educators in Pag-IBIG housing fairs

To help educators find affordable homes, the Department of Education (DepEd) has secured priority access for public school teachers and education personnel in the housing fairs of the Home Development Mutual Fund, in partnership with the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD).
Priority access includes the establishment of specialized lanes in housing fairs, as well as on-site counseling to inform educators about their benefits, financing terms and requirements, and loan applications.
DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara said the partnership with DHSUD and Pag-IBIG aims to support teachers and personnel, especially those with limited access to financing, amid rising property costs.
“Sa pamamagitan ng pakikipagtulungan natin sa Pag-IBIG, sinisiguro natin na ang ating mga guro ay prayoridad sa programa sa pabahay ni Pangulong Bongbong Marcos. Layunin nating pagaanin ang proseso para magkaroon sila ng sariling tahanan na abot-kaya at disente (Through our partnership with Pag-IBIG, we are ensuring that our teachers are prioritized in President Marcos’ housing program. Our goal is to ease the process so they can have their own homes that are affordable and decent),” Angara said.
According to DepEd, registered employees will be issued a Pag-IBIG Loan Value Card to hasten evaluation at developer booths and enable preliminary loan assessment.
Pag-IBIG will also provide shuttle services to transport DepEd personnel to the housing fair sites.
The education department said the upcoming housing fairs will be held from April 27 to 28 at the Jose Rizal Coliseum in Calamba City, and from April 30 to May 1 at the IEC Convention Center in Cebu City.
In partnership with DHSUD, Pag-IBIG is expected to showcase over 20,000 housing units during the events.
“Sa Pag-IBIG Fund, lubos po naming kinikilala ang mahalagang papel ng ating mga guro at kawani ng edukasyon sa paghubog ng kinabukasan ng ating bansa (At Pag-IBIG Fund, we fully recognize the important role of our teachers and education personnel in shaping the country’s future),” said Pag-IBIG Fund CEO Marilene Acosta.
“Kaya naman ang ating housing fairs ay isa sa mga konkretong paraan upang maisakatuparan ang direktiba ni Pangulong Marcos na mas ilapit sa mas maraming Pilipino ang dekalidad at abot-kayang pabahay, partikular sa sektor ng edukasyon (That is why our housing fairs are one of the concrete ways to fulfill President Marcos’ directive to bring quality and affordable housing closer to more Filipinos, particularly in the education sector),” she added.
According to Acosta, their collaboration with DepEd allows teachers to receive priority access and assistance from Pag-IBIG staff during housing fairs, helping them find homes that are affordable, decent, and appropriate for their families.
