There's a tranquil feeling upon waking up, looking outside the window, and seeing Taal Volcano in all its glory.
Nearly 90 years ago, Taal Vista Hotel was the result of the vision President Manuel Quezon had for Tagaytay to become a modern tourist destination. To this day, it continues to be one of the premier hotels to stay at for an undisturbed view of Taal Volcano. Its latest addition is the Presidential Villa, a luxurious space located on the fourth floor of Taal Vista Hotel that spans over 630.2 square meters. It comes with a spacious living room area, perfect for accepting guests and lounging around, a formal dining room, a private pantry, and a powder room. Its Master Suite provides a stunning view of Taal Volcano, complete with a King Bedroom and Twin Bedroom to rest for the night. During your stay, you can also host mini get-togethers and cocktail parties on the balcony and deck for an intimate setting where you can enjoy Tagaytay’s cool breeze. We sat down with Taal Vista Hotel general manager Ramon Makilan to discuss Taal Vista’s long history and to learn more about the Presidential Villa.

Taal Vista has a rich historical significance with its origin. How does your team manage to keep its story relevant?
Taal Vista Hotel stays relevant by continuously listening to our guests and adapting to their changing needs. We carefully choose what fits our brand, knowing that not every trend aligns with who we are. By balancing innovation with respect for our heritage, we keep our story both timeless and meaningful.
Do you know any notable figures who have stayed here in the hotel before?
Taal Vista Hotel has long been a venue for significant gatherings, even during its early days as Taal Vista Lodge. Over the years, it has welcomed many notable local and international figures, especially for major government events such as the APEC and ASEAN summits. Among its distinguished guests were Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev of Russia, members of the family of former Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, and Crown Prince Akihito and Princess Michiko of Japan, who attended a luncheon held in their honor. The hotel also hosted an important gathering in 1966 led by First Lady Imelda R. Marcos, where several First Ladies from different countries visited as part of the Manila Summit Conference.

As a GM, what would your first recommendation be upon checking in at Taal Vista?
As a general manager, my first recommendation upon checking in would be to take a moment to simply pause and take in the view of Taal Lake and Volcano. It’s something that never gets old and truly sets the tone for your stay.
From there, I would suggest enjoying a relaxed meal at Veranda or maybe Taza Fresh Table, where you can experience local flavors while overlooking the scenic landscape. It’s the perfect way to ease into the Taal Vista experience, unhurried, memorable, and deeply connected to place.

What are some offerings of Taal Vista that you wouldn't be able to find anywhere else?
One of the most unique offerings at Taal Vista Hotel is our History Walk, which goes beyond the story of the hotel and also highlights the rich heritage of Tagaytay and Batangas. It’s an experience rooted in legacy, something that connects our guests to the past while reminding them that Taal Vista has always been, and will continue to be, part of these meaningful stories.
