Convicted Korean singer Kim Ho-joong set for release in November
Korean trot singer Kim Ho-joong, 34, is expected to be released in November while serving a prison sentence for hit-and-run and dangerous driving charges.
The case stems from a traffic incident on May 9, 2024, when Kim struck a taxi and fled the scene in Gangnam, Seoul.
Following the incident, his manager reportedly wore Kim’s clothing and appeared at the police station, falsely claiming to be the driver.
After completing a concert on May 19, 2024, Kim admitted to drinking alcohol and driving.
On November 13, 2024, the Seoul Central District Court sentenced Kim to two years and six months in prison for hit-and-run resulting in injury, dangerous driving resulting in injury, failure to take action after an accident, and aiding and abetting the escape of a criminal.
Kim appealed the ruling, but the court dismissed it.
In August 2025, he was transferred from the Seoul Detention Center to the Somang Correctional Institution in Gyeonggi Province.
Before the legal case, Kim had built his career as a rising trot star, including a notable performance in June 2022 alongside world-renowned opera singer Plácido Domingo in Busan, South Korea.
