'Nawala ang angas': 7 PNPA cadets in muriatic acid hazing charged
And then the regrets and the suffering begin.
Weeks after the raucous display of machismo over their underclassmen, seven cadets of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) are now at the lowest point of their lives after they were slapped with a criminal case in connection with the controversial muriatic acid hazing.
Those charged with violation of the Republic Act No. 11053 (Anti-Hazing Act of 2018) were five yearlings (3rd class cadets or those in the second year at the Academy) and two cows (2nd class or on their third year at the Academy).
A report reaching the Office of the Chief PNP said the same case was also filed against the tactical officer of the Day, a police official with a rank of Major; and. A Tactical Police Non-Commissioned Officer with a rank of Police Senior Master Sergeant.
The case was filed by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor at Imus, Cavite.
The case stemmed from the incident that happened in April inside the PNPA in Silang, Cavite wherein three cadets concocted strong chemicals being used in cleaning bathrooms and applied them at the back of 22 plebes, or new cadets.
The injured cadets suffered burns at the back and for some of them, the burns reached their rectum and scrotum.
The incident triggered a massive investigation that resulted in the relief of the PNPA director then, Police Maj. Gen. Andre Dizon and eight other police officials assigned to the Academy.
