Malacañang said it is still considering the Japanese government’s invitation for President Marcos to make a state visit next month.
Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire said on Wednesday, April 22, that nothing is confirmed yet.
"Nothing is confirmed. We are still considering the invite," she told reporters in a text message when asked to confirm Japan's invite.
It was reported on Wednesday that Japanese government is looking to invite Marcos to Japan as a state guest in May.
If the visit pushes through, Marcos is expected to meet with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.
It can be recalled that Marcos and the Japanese Prime Minister talked in a telephone meeting in March where they agreed to work closely for the early de-escalation of tensions in the Middle East, focusing particularly on ensuring safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
In June 2025, Marcos flew to Japan to attend the World Expo 2025 in Osaka.
