President Marcos and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos joined the Catholic faithful in Pangasinan to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the canonical coronation of Our Lady of Manaoag.
The President and the First Lady joined hundreds of devotees at Minor Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag in Pangasinan to celebrate the centennial canonical coronation of Our Lady of Manaoag on Wednesday, April 22.
During the mass, Marcos offered a prayer for the celebration.
In his prayer, he expressed hope that the celebration would renew the commitment of public servants, including himself, to serving the nation.
"May this celebration deepen our bond as a people whom you have called in this blessed place of Manaoag, and renew our commitment to serve you and our neighbors with love and compassion," he said.
"Through the intercession of Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag, the beloved protectress and patroness of the province of Pangasinan, may our lives be filled with your blessings, and may we always glorify you in our words and actions," he prayed.
The President said the canonical coronation of Our Lady of Manaoag a century ago is "in recognition of her unwavering maternal care and intercession," which he said reminds the people of her "steadfast love and protection for all whom she calls and for all who call upon her."
"We honor Our Lady Inang Maria, our mother crowned in glory, who always leads us closer to you. Her unwavering faith encourages us to trust divine providence, and her profound humility calls us to walk the path of holiness in the footsteps of your only begotten son and her beloved son, Jesus, our savior," Marcos said.
The Chief Executive also prayed for the grace to embrace her virtues, to find her guidance as a beacon of light in moments of trial, and to strengthen devotion to her by nurturing profound hope.
The occasion commemorates the 100th anniversary of the image’s canonical coronation in 1926, a rare honor bestowed by the Vatican.
As part of the rites, the President and the First Lady formally presented ceremonial crowns to Apostolic Nuncio Charles John Brown, representing the Holy See.
The program also featured a reenactment of the historic crowning of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Child Jesus.
A grand procession of the revered image is set to pass through the streets of Manaoag later in the day.
According to Malacañang, local health responders attended to at least 10 elderly individuals and two teenagers, while several others briefly collapsed amid the crowd.
The town of Manaoag, whose name is derived from a local term meaning “to call,” traces its origin to accounts of Marian apparitions.
For generations, the image, affectionately called "Ina" by devotees, has drawn pilgrims seeking solace, healing, and divine intercession.
