A young Manileña, who lost her left hand in a tragic accident in January, has been given a new sense of hope and possibility after receiving a life-changing robotic prosthetic through the Manila city government’s Kaagapay Program.
Ten-year-old Stephanie Jennylyn Respicio could not contain her joy as she was finally fitted with a robotic hand to replace her amputated left hand, breaking into a spontaneous dance as emotions overflowed during the moment.
The local government said that Stephanie’s story is one of resilience. Earlier this year, on January 5, she lost her hand after slipping while rollerblading and accidentally grabbing a lit firecracker.
Determined to help their daughter regain a sense of normalcy, Stephanie’s parents sought assistance from the city government through the Kaagapay Program. The advanced robotic hand, which costs around P250,000, would have otherwise been far beyond the family’s means.
Through the program, the city was able to extend immediate support, restoring not only Stephanie’s mobility but also her confidence and dreams.
Alongside her family, Stephanie expressed gratitude to Manila MayorFrancisco “Isko Moreno" Domagoso for the swift assistance and compassion shown to them during a difficult time.
More than just a medical aid, the robotic hand symbolizes a fresh start for Stephanie, one in which hope, determination, and community support come together to help her move forward.
