BACOLOD CITY – This highly-urbanized city is providing assistance for 80 families or 240 individuals displaced by a fire in Purok Ramon, Magsaysay, Barangay 14 here on Tuesday, April 21.
Fire Officer 2 Rolin Paulan, chief arson investigator of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Bacolod, said the fire started on the second floor of a two-story house owned by Doronila family.
Paulan said the blaze was caused by an overheated appliance. The house owner was on the first floor of the house when he noticed the fire from his son's bedroom.
Affected residents sought refuge in evacuation centers and need clothes and hygiene kits. The city government has provided food and basic necessities to fire victims.
Paulan reminded people to never leave appliances unattended in their homes especially this summer.
Thirty-two houses were destroyed – 22 totally and 10 partially. Damage to property was P4.5 million.
