nubia Neo 5 5G review: An accessible gaming phone for fans

Published Apr 21, 2026 11:34 am
nubia has positioned itself as a go-to smartphone for gamers. The devices they offer are sleek, offering decent performance, while having a price range that is accessible to many.
And here with us right now is the nubia Neo 5 5G.
If you are familiar with the Neo lineup, then the Neo 5 5G should feel right at home. It maintains its cybernetic design you may have seen in previous releases. It still sports the rear Light Strip, which can be customized to a degree, giving the Neo 5 5G some personality to your liking.
It features an impressive 6050mAh battery, providing long hours for your gaming needs. It ships out with 8GB of RAM, which you can expand for a total up to 20GB from borrowing from the 256GB storage. It is powered with a Unisoc T9300 5G, which serves its purpose in providing a gaming experience while keeping the cost of the device itself down.
What I found interesting is that the nubia Neo 5 5G comes with a headphone jack, a rare and marvelous sight to catch in the wild. This makes sense for me and something I found very considerate, because people who are looking into budget options won’t necessarily shell out extra to get wireless earphones. What irks me though, is that there are no earphones that come with the box. You see, kids, back in the day, phones came boxed with earphones. Sure, quality is questionable, but at least you’ll have something to keep you occupied while inside trains and buses. So, best to start digging through your drawers for any wired earphones you may still have.
Neo Triggers 5.0 gives you extra options to map out your buttons without taking up screen space.

On the right side of the nubia Neo 5 5G are two markings. These are the Neo Triggers, serving as shoulder buttons if you’re coming from a console or a controller. What I appreciated about the Neo Triggers is how you can feel them, not in a tactile way, but the markings themselves are lightly engraved, so you can actually feel them rubbing against your skin.
The rear cameras, featuring 13MP and 2MP, are impressive. Though not exactly the fastest shooters out there. You will be able to take pictures and videos you’ll be proud to share. The front 16MP is just as impressive.

The nubia Neo 5 5G is a smartphone that continues the legacy of nubia, unafraid to try new approaches, while maintaining their identity to its fanbase. This device is certainly worth considering if you’re looking for a phone that is easy on the pocket but will still provide you with a satisfying lifestyle.
Stay tuned as we still have another nubia device on our hands to review!
