'May CCTV pala': Cops arrest 2 people tagged in another viral gas-and-run case
They say there’s no such thing as a perfect crime, and in the case of these three gas-and-run suspects, they failed to realize that there’s such a thing as CCTVs.
On Tuesday, two of the suspects got surprise knocks on their door after police were able to locate them using the CCTV footage obtained at the course of the investigation.
Police Maj. Gen. Anthony A. Aberin, director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), said they are now hunting down the third suspect based on the information they have.
The incident happened at around 3 a.m. on April 20 at a gas station in Barangay Bagong Silangan in Quezon City.In the CCTV, the vehicle was seen speeding off after gassing up amounting to P1,500.
The incident was immediately reported to the police and after enhancing the video, the vehicle make and license plate of the car was identified.
At the course of the probe, police found out that the vehicle was already sold by the real owner—and that information led to the arrest of the suspects.
“This is proof that even minor offenses will not be disregarded, as these acts undermine public order and accountability,” said Aberin.
He said charges for estafa are being prepared against the involved suspects.
The gas-and-run incident was the second of its kind that was solved by the NCRPO.
Last month, a 27-year old man surrendered to the police after learning that he was being hunted down for speeding after gassing up in a fuel station along EDSA amounting to more than P5,000.
