Fire at paint storage in Valenzuela City reaches second alarm

A fire that broke out at a paint storage facility in Barangay Dalandanan, Valenzuela City reached second alarm before being placed under control early Tuesday, April 21.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and the Valenzuela City Command, Control and Communication Center, the fire was first reported at around 6:52 p.m. on Monday, April 20.
It occurred at a three-storey storage facility located behind a gasoline station along McArthur Highway in Barangay Dalandanan.
Fire Senior Inspector Steven Olitoquit of the BFP Valenzuela said the structure served as storage for paint and other highly flammable materials.
He said the blaze rapidly intensified due to combustible substances such as paint, thinner, and other industrial chemicals stored inside the facility.
Olitoquit added that fire and thick smoke quickly spread, affecting at least two floors of the structure.

The incident escalated to second alarm at 7:16 p.m. as multiple fire units and reinforcement teams were deployed to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby establishments in the densely built area.
Firefighters initially used aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF) to suppress the blaze; however, responders noted its limited effectiveness under the conditions inside the facility.
Crews later shifted to cooling operations to gradually contain the fire and prevent further escalation.
The fire was placed under control at around 1:32 a.m. Tuesday, according to the incident commander, while suppression, monitoring, and overhaul operations continued to ensure that no remaining hot spots would reignite.
Based on the latest report from the Valenzuela City government, one family or approximately seven individuals were affected by the incident as the building also served as their residence.
Four dogs were also rescued, and no fatalities or injuries were reported.
Fire personnel from the BFP Valenzuela City Fire Station were assisted by responding teams from the Barangay Isla Fire & Rescue Brigade and other support units, which helped maintain water supply and operational support throughout the incident
At present, firefighting operations remain ongoing as authorities continue to secure the area.
The BFP NCR–Valenzuela is also conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire and assess the total damage.
The fire bureau confirmed that the fire has not yet been declared out.
