BLACKPINK's Jisoo distances herself from older brother in sexual assault controversy
Jisoo of BLACKPINK has denied any knowledge of the private life of her older brother, who has been linked to a sexual assault controversy.
According to Korean media reports, a man in his 30s—identified as the brother of a member of a well-known girl group—was arrested after being accused of sexually assaulting a female internet broadcaster. The report said he purchased a “dinner date voucher” from the broadcaster, brought her to his home, and allegedly assaulted her. Police sought an arrest warrant, but prosecutors rejected the request. The man reportedly admitted to physical contact but denied it was non-consensual.
Separately, a netizen claiming to be his wife accused him of domestic violence on social media.
Online users also alleged that Jisoo’s brother was listed in the production credits of the series "Boyfriend on Demand."
Eun Hyun-ho, a lawyer from Kim & Chang representing Blissoo, issued a statement distancing the artist from the controversy.
“Regarding the matters concerning the family of an artist affiliated with Blissoo that have recently been spreading in some media reports, online communities, and social media, we express grave regret over indiscriminate acts of defamation linking the artist and Blissoo to these issues, or relying on content that differs from the facts,” the lawyer said.
He added that the matters being raised are completely unrelated to the artist or Blissoo, noting that much of the content circulating online consists of unverified speculation or clearly false information.
The statement emphasized that Jisoo has lived independently for years and is not involved in her brother’s personal affairs.
“The artist began her trainee life at a young age and became independent early on, living apart from her family for a long period. As a result, she is not in a position to be aware of or involved in the private life of the individual in question,” he said.
The lawyer also clarified that while Jisoo may have received limited advice from family members during the early stages of establishing Blissoo, no family member has ever received compensation from the company or taken part in its decision-making. He stressed that the company operates independently and has no legal or managerial ties to the individual in question.
He further denied circulating claims that Jisoo and her brother co-founded the company or that he holds any executive role, calling such allegations entirely false.
The statement added that neither Jisoo nor Blissoo is providing financial or legal support to the individual, nor do they plan to do so, and that they are not involved in any exchanges related to the matter.
The legal team warned that the continued spread of false information—particularly content that associates Jisoo’s name, image, or likeness with unrelated issues—constitutes defamation and a violation of her rights. It said Blissoo will pursue all available civil and criminal legal remedies against those spreading false information or defamatory posts, misusing the artist’s name or image, or publishing speculative and unverified content, and that it intends to take strict action against repeat or malicious offenders without leniency or settlement.
