CEBU CITY – Over 5,000 motorcycle license plates have been released since the Land Transportation Office-Central Visayas (LTO-7) rolled out its Friendly Flag Down program.
The program was launched last April 14, and since then, 5,034 plates were released, said LTO-7 Director Wendel C. Dinglasan.
Dinglasan said the program is one way of bringing LTO services closer to the public.
"Our goal here in Central Visayas is to change the public's perception of our agency. We want to make LTO-7 a government office that is easy to transact with, and we also want to bring our services closer to the general public."
Under the program, the LTO-7 aims to release all unclaimed license plates in Cebu and Bohol.
"We are here to help motorists secure their plates in the most efficient and convenient way possible," Dinglasan said.
In implementing the program, LTO-7 personnel from various district and extension offices will flag down motorcycles bearing temporary plates and issue their original license plates on the spot.
Under the program, motorists are guided through the verification process by presenting their Motor Vehicle Official Receipt (OR) and Certificate of Registration (CR), allowing authorities to check the availability and status of their plates.
The LTO-7 will be on the streets from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and
5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to distribute unclaimed plates.
"This is a collaborative effort and extended work for our personnel, knowing that they go out into the streets before and after office hours to release plates," added Dinglasan.
The LTO-7 assured that similar operations will continue across the region as part of their intensified efforts to reduce the plate backlog, improve compliance, and enhance road safety.
