Senate President Vicente "Tito" Sotto III (Senate of the Philippines)
Senate President Tito Sotto, who may serve as the presiding officer of the Senate sitting as an impeachment court, said Monday, April 10, he invited members of the majority for some discussion in relation to the impeachment case.
“I just wanted to give my colleagues a heads up on the possibility of receiving the Articles of Impeachment from the [House of Representatives]. It’s best that we prepare for it as senator-judges," Sotto told reporters.
However, he clarified that such a meeting held during a dinner was not a caucus nor official, inviting only those who were in town while the Senate is on break.
The impeachment case of Duterte has been progressing in the House of Representatives as the House Committee on Justice is already conducting confirmatory hearings on the complaint.
Sotto, as the presiding officer of the impeachment trial, remains a high possibility as Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo "Ping" Lacson recently said the Senate leader still enjoys the support of the majority.
Sotto vowed to “remain impartial and wait for whatever will be presented" over the impeachment case.
Sen. Joseph Victor "JV" Ejercito, over the weekend, also confirmed about the meeting, saying it is imperative for the Senate leadership to prepare for any eventuality.
