ILOILO CITY – Roxas City is hosting the week-long National Festival of Talents (NFOT) of the Department of Education (DepEd).
“We are not only celebrating artistry, but also give equal value to science and technology, recognizing creativity in all its forms,” said DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara during the opening ceremony on Sunday, April 19.
This year’s theme – "Embracing Change, Redefining Excellence" – is anchored on creativity, resilience, and adaptability.
Angara told student-delegates from the country’s 18 regions not to think about winning or losing in competitions that are regarded as extracurricular activities.
“What’s important is the process,” Angara said. “This is truly a celebration of the talents of our youth. Not only it is a competition, but it is something that unlocks potential,” added Angara.
Also in attendance were DepEd Undersecretary Peter Irving C. Corvera, DepEd-6 Regional Director Cristito A. Eco, DepEd-6 Assistant Regional Director Miguel Mac D. Aposin, DepEd Capiz Division Superintendent Roel Bermejo, and DepEd Roxas City OIC Division Superintendent Adonis Mosquera.
Mayor Ronnie Dadivas thanked DepEd for their trust and confidence in Roxas City.
The NFOT opening coincided with the closing of the Capiztahan Festival, the 125th anniversary of the civil government of Capiz.
Angara and DepEd officials were welcomed by Gov. Fredenil Castro.
