New Globe data centers to run entirely on renewable energy

Ayala-led Globe Telecom Inc. is locking in long-term renewable energy (RE) contracts for its data center operations, moves intended to insulate the company from volatile power costs while meeting the intensifying electricity demands of the digital economy.
The telecommunications giant said its joint venture, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) Philippines, secured 40.5 megawatts of clean power through a 10-year supply agreement with MPower, the retail electricity unit of Manila Electric Co.
Under a 10-year power supply agreement, the capacity is earmarked for STT GDC’s STT Fairview and STT Cavite facilities, supporting an infrastructure roadmap that anticipates a surge in high-performance computing and artificial intelligence workloads.
Carlo Malana, STT GDC Philippines president and chief executive officer (CEO), said securing RE for its data center infrastructure ensures that these facilities scale responsibly while meeting the demands of emerging technologies.
“By securing long-term renewable energy, we are ensuring that the mission-critical platforms our customers depend on every day are powered by sustainable sources, keeping carbon neutrality at the core of our operations,” he said in a statement.
Having fully transitioned all its data centers to RE last year, STT GDC Philippines expects the agreement with MPower to further strengthen its ability to support the needs of global technology giants.
Data centers, which power many of the digital applications people use today, are facilities where companies like Amazon and Google store data and other relevant information to keep their services running.
As demand for these services continues to grow, data centers require greater computing power and electricity to ensure uninterrupted, reliable operations.
This makes RE a viable move for a company like STT GDC Philippines as it expands its data center portfolio without losing sight of its environmental responsibility.
As part of its broader sustainability commitments, the company aims to achieve carbon-neutral operations as early as 2030.
Fully powered by RE, the STT Fairview 1 facility has recently commenced operations, with several MW of IT load already deployed and operating for customers.
Upon full completion, the data center will be the largest in the country, with a total IT capacity of 124 MW.
Meanwhile, the STT Cavite 2 facility has been energized with RE and is currently undergoing testing and commissioning.
