This was the President announced Co's arrest Thursday night after months. He was apprehended after allegedly crossing the border without proper documentation.
The DPWH described the development as a positive one, not only for the agency but for the country as a whole.
“Napakagandang balita nito para hindi lang sa DPWH, para sa buong Pilipinas (This is wonderful news not only for the DPWH but for the entire Philippines),” he said.
It was in July 2025 when Co quietly left the Philippines amid growing pressure for him to provide clarity on the issue of budget insertions and, later on, the flood control projects corruption scandal.
Dizon also described the development as a result of the administration’s determination to pursue those facing allegations.
He said the arrest reflects the government’s commitment to ensure accountability.
“At testament ito sa resolve at determination ng ating Pangulo at ng gobyerno na panagutin yung lahat ng mga dapat managot (This is a testament to the resolve and determination of our President and the government to hold accountable all those who must be held responsible),” he added.
Dizon said the public is now looking forward to Co’s return to the Philippines to face the allegations against him.
“I think the entire country is looking forward na bumalik si Zaldy Co dito para humarap at managot (I think the entire country is looking forward for Zaldy Co to return and face justice and answer for his actions),” he said.
He added that further details on Co’s return are expected to be announced by the President.
“So hintayin na lang natin siguro ang mga announcements pa na manggagaling sa ating Pangulo tungkol dito (So perhaps we should just wait for further announcements from our President regarding this matter),” Dizon said.
