Lady farmer killed in Ormoc grass fire

TACLOBAN CITY – A 75-year-old lady farmer was killed in a grass fire in Sitio Barukan, Barangay Liberty, Ormoc City, Saturday, April 18.
The Ormoc City Fire Station identified the victim as alias Lydia.
Initial investigation disclosed that the victim was cultivating her land and set fire to unwanted weeds.
However, the fire spread rapidly and due to her advanced age, the victim was unable to escape in time and was trapped and suffocated to death.
The fire started at 2:30 p.m. and declared fire out at 5:45 p.m. Authorities found the victim lying in a prone position.
Her remains were taken to a funeral home for proper disposition.
Further investigation is ongoing.
