Cagayan under state of calamity due to severe drought, oil crisis

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – This province was placed under a state of calamity on Monday, April 20, due to a severe drought and the oil crisis.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) approved a resolution during its second quarterly meeting that was promptly endorsed and approved by the 12th Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Cagayan.
Engr. Arsenio Antonio of the Office of the Provincial Agriculture (OPA) said the total value of crop damage and losses caused by drought, along with the impact of rising petroleum prices on fisherfolk, could reach P10 billion.
The council immediately approved the resolution to facilitate the immediate release of assistance to affected individuals, particularly farmers and fishermen.
Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Mac Paul Alariao has requested a list of affected individuals from the OPA for the release of family food packs and emergency cash assistance.
