Suwon City: Favorite spot for K-drama lovers in Korea
SUWON CITY, South Korea - Suwon City, about 30 km from Seoul, is a favorite destination for fans of Korean dramas.
Some of the Korean dramas that were filmed in Suwon include “Lovely Runner” starring Byeon Woo-seok and Kim Hye-yoon, “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” starring Park Eun-bin, "Twenty-Five Twenty-One" with Kim Tae-ri and Nam Joo-hyuk, and "Queen of Tears" with Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won.
A total of 41 journalists from 30 countries, including Manila Bulletin Entertainment, were able to visit the city recently, participating in this year's World Journalists Conference (WJC).
One of the most iconic and Instagrammable spots we visited while there was the Starfield Suwon Library.
Starfield Suwon Library occupies the fourth to seventh floors of Starfield Suwon, a favorite shopping mall among locals and foreigners.
We were welcomed by Won Youngson, the general manager of Starfield Suwon.
“Starfield was first introduced in Hanam in 2016 as a family-oriented retail and leisure destination–bringing shopping, dining, and entertainment together in one place. Today, we operate five locations across Korea, including this branch here in Suwon,” he said.
The mall, he added, “offers far more than just shopping-bringing together culture, leisure, dining, and spaces to relax, all under one roof. Over the years, it has become one of Korea's most popular lifestyle destinations. “
“Here in Suwon, the space has been shaped around a younger, trend-driven audience. Built around a dynamic, experience-led concept, you'll find a strong mix of trend-forward select shops, rotating F&B pop-ups, and immersive, hands-on experiences throughout the mall,” he went on.
Won described Starfield Suwon Library as the heart of the mall, “one of the most iconic and beloved spaces in the entire complex.”
“Spanning four levels-from the 4th to the 7th floor-this open, vertically connected space invites you to pause, gather, and find inspiration through books. Its 22-meter-high bookshelves and striking sense of openness create a truly memorable experience for everyone who visits,” he shared.
The design of the library has captured the attention of scores of people, especially tourists who search for iconic places in Korea.
Youngson added, “This is a spot most visitors don't miss-and one they almost always capture before they leave. If you head up to the 5th or 6th floor, you'll be able to frame both the upper and lower levels together, which gives you an even more striking perspective for photos.”
“I hope today's visit leaves you with a lasting impression, and that it's something you'll carry with you and share with others-bringing even more visitors from around the world to Starfield Suwon,” he said.
The WJC 2026 was organized by the Journalists Association of Korea (JAK) headed by its president, Park Jong-hyun, with the support of Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Korea Press Foundation.
