A rider died while waiting in line to receive P5,000 in fuel subsidy from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) at the Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City on April 18, the agency confirmed.
The fuel assistance program drew a large number of applicants, with long queues forming as early as morning at the Quezon Memorial Circle, one of the main distribution sites in the National Capital Region.
Some riders also shared online their experiences of prolonged waiting times and exposure to the sun while lining up for the aid distribution, with similar scenes of congestion reported in other payout venues across Metro Manila.
Authorities are continuing to gather information to determine the full context of the incident.
