BACOLOD CITY – Jamaicah Bantigue, a 20-year-old psychology student from Don Salvador Benedicto (DSB) in Negros Occidental, bagged the municipality’s first-ever Pearl Queen crown in the Lin-ay sang Negros pageant during the 30th Panaad sa Negros Festival at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan here on Friday.
All 32 local government units (LGUs), including this highly-urbanized city, joined the competition, the largest and most inclusive lineup in pageant history.
Bantigue stressed her advocacy “You Matter” that focuses on promoting mental health awareness and addressing symptoms of psychological conditions through timely and meaningful interventions.
“You Matter is a reminder that no one should feel alone in their struggles. As someone who listens, learns, and grows through Psychology, I believe that awareness must be matched with action – through compassion, understanding, and real support systems,” Bantigue said in an interview.
Her platform reflected her personal journey as a Psychology major at the University of Saint a Salle (USLS) here where she is a working scholar.
Bantigue also bagged corporate and special awards, including the Best in Talent and Muse of the Media in the municipality category.
“I have this immense feeling of joy of bringing home the first-ever crown for DSB. This is our pride after 30 years of waiting,” she said.
She recalled the days she prepared for the pageant, including being away from her family for three months. “I just let things be and let everything to God,” Bantigue said.
She advised women to pursue their dreams despite the challenges and trials and always believe in their selves. “Being you is power,” she stressed.
Bantigue will represent Negros Occidental in the Miss World Philippines next year.
First runner-up was Johana Marie Oyog from Kabankalan City. Second runner-up was Kimberly Kate Payumo of Talisay City.
Elisha Krizzle Escultura of Cauayan was third runner-up and Glazel Bayona from Calatrava was the fourth runner-up.
Celebrity Jericho Rosales serenaded the candidates with celebrity-host Robi Domingo and Dani Dingcong.
The pageant was one of the highlights of the week-long grand festival in the province.
