Police seize grenade, firearms from 5 men in Taguig, Muntinlupa
Taguig and Muntinlupa police confiscated a grenade and illegal firearms from five suspects in several operations.
The Taguig police arrested a man in Barangay Pinagsama who indiscriminately brandished a firearm during a drinking session.
The arrested suspect was identified as alias Fernando, 30, a construction worker and resident of Barangay Pinagsama, who was nabbed on Firefly Street. The police recovered from his possession a .38-caliber revolver loaded with live ammunition. He will face a complaint for violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) for failing to present any document that would show he had legal authority to carry the firearm.
In Barangay South Signal, Taguig, the police conducted a targeted surveillance that led to the arrest of two men for possession of a grenade and a firearm.
The suspects were identified as alias Guillermo, 19, a rider and resident of Barangay North Signal; and alias Ranier, 18, a resident of Barangay Central Signal, both located in Taguig.
Authorities seized a live hand grenade from Guillermo and a 9mm pistol with a loaded magazine from Ranier.
Both suspects failed to provide the required permits, prompting the filing of charges for violations of Republic Act 10591 and Republic Act 9516 (which amended Presidential Decree 1866 “codifying the laws on illegal/unlawful possession, manufacture, dealing in, acquisition or disposition, of firearms, ammunition or explosives or instruments used in the manufacture of firearms, ammunition or explosives, and imposing stiffer penalties for certain violations thereof and for relevant purposes."
In Muntinlupa, the police implemented to court-issued search warrants in Barangays Poblacion and Tunasan.
In Barangay Poblacion, the police arrested alias Arnold, 30, after they seized a .38-caliber revolver and live ammunition.
In Barangay Tunasan, authorities nabbed alias Mic, 59, after they recovered a .38-caliber revolver without a serial number during the implementation of another search warrant.
All the arrested individuals are under police custody and will face charges.
"Our message is clear—walang lugar ang illegal firearms at explosives sa ating komunidad (Our message is clear—illegal firearms and explosives have no place in our community)," said Col. Glenn Oliver Cinco, acting director of the Southern Police District.
