'Pinoy pride on global stage': DOT hails BINI, Katseye's Sophia Laforteza for Coachella milestone

The Department of Tourism (DOT) on Sunday, April 19, lauded P-Pop group BINI and Sophia Laforteza of Katseye for raising the Philippine flag at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, marking a milestone for Filipino talent on the global stage.
In a statement, the DOT congratulated the artists for performing at one of the world’s most iconic music festivals.
“The Department of Tourism (DOT) proudly congratulates P-Pop sensation BINI and Sophia Laforteza of Katseye for raising the Philippine flag on one of the world’s most iconic stages—Coachella,” the agency said.
The agency noted that BINI made history as the first Filipino act to perform at Coachella, delivering an electrifying set that drew global attention.
“As the first Filipino act to perform at Coachella, BINI delivered an electrifying 45-minute, 10-song set that drew global attention, with fans gathering early and proudly waving Philippine flags. Together with Sophia’s appearance, this moment highlights the rising global influence of Filipino music and talent,” it added.
The DOT said their performances brought pride and excitement to Filipinos around the world.
“Over the past weeks, you have brought pride and excitement to Filipinos around the world. Your performances showcased not just world-class talent, but the vibrant spirit, creativity, and identity of the Filipino people—bringing joy to global audiences in a way that is uniquely ours,” it said.
The tourism department said it looks forward to more global milestones from Filipino artists.
“We celebrate this milestone and look forward to your continued success as you inspire future generations and elevate the Philippines on the world stage. Congratulations, BINI and Sophia Laforteza!” it added.
