Philippines to remain cyclone-free this week; afternoon thunderstorms possible — PAGASA
The country will remain free of tropical cyclones this week, but hot and humid conditions with isolated afternoon or evening thunderstorms are expected, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said on Sunday, April 19.
PAGASA weather specialist Veronica Torres said easterlies, or warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean, will continue to affect most parts of the country through Monday, April 20, bringing generally fair weather but with rising daytime temperatures.
Despite the mostly fair conditions, localized thunderstorms may develop in the afternoon or evening, especially in inland areas.
Meanwhile, Northern Luzon will have a lower chance of rain due to a ridge of high-pressure extending across the area. The system is associated with fair weather.
From Tuesday to Wednesday, April 21 to 22, the easterlies will persist over the country, resulting in partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
A similar weather pattern is expected from Thursday to Friday, April 23 to 24, although eastern sections of the country may see a higher likelihood of rain.
Meanwhile, PAGASA said Severe Tropical Storm Sinlaku, which remains outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, is not expected to affect the country.
As of Sunday, the storm was located about 2,770 kilometers east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon and was moving northeastward at 25 kilometers per hour, away from the country.
