Senator Erwin Tulfo said on Sunday, April 19 the pursuit of accountability on the “flood control mess” issue must not be abandoned despite the ongoing problems on high prices and the oil crisis.
Tulfo made the call saying that while immediate relief and long-term solutions are paramount amid the Middle East crisis driving up prices, the pursuit of accountability is still important.
“We should prioritize the ill effects of the ongoing war, especially curbing skyrocketing prices of goods. What if natural calamities hit us? We really have to iron out a long-term plan,” the senator said in an interview.
With no end in sight to the conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran, Tulfo pointed out that a solid plan for a looming energy crisis is urgent.
Beyond legislation, the senator also advocated for extending government aid to the middle class.
“We need to ensure that not only the most vulnerable sectors are covered, but also the middle class, those who are one hospital bill away from poverty,” he said.
That is why, he said, it is imperative for Congress to exact accountability despite all the crisis-driven issues hounding the government.
“While we want to prioritize crisis-driven issues and solutions to ensure that every Filipino family are taken care of, it is our duty to exact accountability,” he said.
At this, Tulfo expressed his gratitude over the capture at Czech Republic of former House lawmaker Elizaldy Co, a prominent figure in the ongoing flood control probe.
With Co’s anticipated return to the country, Tulfo hopes to finalize the probe and hold those accountable through proper court processes should the Blue Ribbon panel get his testimony.
“We should finalize the Senate investigation on this once and for all, so we can move forward with other problems the country is facing,” he stressed.
