ILOILO CITY – The provincial government of Capiz has wrapped up this year’s Capiztahan, the festival celebrating the 125th anniversary of its civil government, with a toned-down version due to the impact of the fuel crisis from ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
The administration of Gov. Fredenil H. Castro still pushed through with the activities despite deducting P10 million from the initial budget of P54 million.
The festival’s highlight on Saturday, April 18, was centered on the Maragtas sang Capisnon Cultural Performances of the 16 municipalities and the capital city of Roxas. The float parade competition was scrapped due to high fuel prices.
Capiz also hosted a cultural exchange with the provinces of Aklan and Romblon, which used to be part of Capiz before it became provinces.
The Surambaw, an eat-all-you-can seafood buffet that showcases Capiz as the country’s “Seafood Capital,” was also held.
Another key event of the week was the 78th death anniversary of its most illustrious son, President Manuel Acuña Roxas, last April 15.
There was also a trade fair, a beauty pageant, sports competitions, fireworks show, and nightly entertainment from the country’s top musicians and performers.
The façade of the new Capiz Provincial Capitol at Pueblo de Panay in Roxas City became the backdrop for the majority of this year’s events.
