Operators of public utility jeenpneys and tricycles in Tanay, Rizal, have begun receiving cash assistance from the municipal government under its "Tulong sa Transport Sector ng Tanay" program.
The office of Tanay Mayor Rex Manuel Tanjuatco said the program seeks to provide financial support to public utility jeepney (PUJ) and tricycle operators in the municipality, helping them cope with the burden of high fuel prices.
Each PUJ operator is entitled to ₱2,000, while tricycle operators are guaranteed ₱1,000 each, courtesy of the municipal government.
The payout began on April 11 at the municipal grounds, where the majority of tricycle operators received the cash assistance.
PUJ operators in the upland villages are scheduled to receive their financial aid on Friday, April 17, at the Sampaloc New Terminal and Public Market in Barangay Sampaloc.
A total of 156 PUJ operators and 3,685 tricycle owners/operators are listed in the municipal government's database.
Mayor Tanjuatco said the financial assistance is the municipal government’s initiative to help those in the transport sector while they await aid from the national government.
