The country’s line up of heroes gained an unfamiliar but welcomed addition with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) hailing the unwavering dedication of Narcotics Detection Dog (NDD) “Trebor’’ with a hero’s burial on Wednesday, April 15.
In a statement, PDEA said the hero's burial is in recognition of Trebor's vast and significant contribution that led to numerous successful anti-drug operations in the Caraga Administrative Region.
An emotional and yet tranquil atmosphere solemnized the memorial service as the fallen hero was finally laid to rest inside the grounds of the PDEA Regional Office XIII in Butuan City before his mourning anti-narcotics comrades who bade him farewell.
In the necropsy report, ”Trebor’’ passed away due to breed-related complications, succumbing to the condition despite immediate medical attention marking a profound loss to the force.
“Trebor”, a five-year-old Belgian Malinois served for several years in the PDEA anti-drug operations, helping authorities seize substantial quantities of illegal drugs, and prevent their distribution.
One of the latest accomplishments of “Trebor” was the successful interception of approximately 14 kilograms of shabu worth P95 million, at Lipata Port on March 14, 2026, detecting the illegal drugs concealed inside a tire.
“Known for his exceptional discipline, keen instincts, and loyalty, Trebor became a valued member of the unit and a symbol of commitment to public safety,” said PDEA Director General Isagani R Nerez.
“This dog was more than an asset. It was a partner, a protector and a hero. Its contributions saved countless lives and strengthened our mission against illegal drugs. Today, we honor not just its service but also its sacrifice,” he added.
“Trebor’’ will have his place in the PDEA K9 Honor Wall where its exploits will stand as a lasting reminder of courage, loyalty and sacrifice.
