'Nag-iba ng career': 2 ex-cops among 4 slain kidnapmen in Parañaque shootout
Anti-kidnapping agents of the Philippine National Police (PNP) rescued a 78-year old businessman from the clutches of his abductors in a daring rescue operation that resulted in the death of four suspects, two of them turned out to be dismissed policemen.
Police Brig. Gen. Glicerio Cansilao, director of the PNP-Anti-Kidnapping Group, said the operation stemmed from the request for assistance of a relative of the victim who said that the businessman was not able to go home from his office on Tuesday afternoon, April 14.
Later in the evening of the same day, the family of the victim received a phone call and demanded P50 million ransom. The kidnappers later agreed to P10 million.
The kidnappers were apparently surprised by the presence of AKG agents at the release site and this led to the victim being safely rescued.
A shootout then erupted when the kidnappers allegedly opened fire at the policemen.
Four of the suspects, two of them dismissed cops, were wounded and were later taken to the nearest hospital where they were declared dead.
A policeman suffered minor injuries but is now in stable condition.
Cansilao said they are now conducting follow-up operations against the three other suspects who were able to escape and other personalities involved in the incident.
