Lost in translation?: Jonvic explains the 's' word vs Baste

Certainly, it has nothing to do with Davao City Mayor Sebastian "Baste" Duterte’s… you know.
For Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla, "s*pot" it is a common and popular word that every tambay on the street would blurt out to people who are all bluff and bluster.
Remulla was reacting to the statement of Baste during the launching of a new coalition, the Reform Alliance for Good Governance and Accountability in San Juan City recently.
In his speech, Baste was quoted saying that all he needs is the head of President Marcos, a statement that did not sit well with Marcos supporters.
But for a son whose father was sent to a jail in the Netherlands under the administration that their family supported during the 2022 presidential elections, the outrage is understandable.
Remulla, however, does not believe that it is a major cause of concern in terms of the President’s security because according to him, “I wouldn’t put too much weight on the words of Baste. S*pot naman ’yan eh.”
Remulla later explained in a television interview that the word refers to people who are all talk.
“If you want to lead the country, you have to be more statesman-like. You have to talk about what’s the future of the country,” said Remulla.
“But if you talk that way and it’s all words, that’s what we call during our college days as ‘s*pot’ because you’re not doing anything,” he added.
