Dizon pushes completion of DPWH projects in Iloilo

ILOILO CITY – Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon pushed the completion of long-delayed projects in the city and province of Iloilo during a visit on Wednesday, April 15.
“I need to come because if I don’t come here, there is no sense of urgency. But if I go to an area, it can give a sense of urgency,” said Dizon during a site inspection. “The people of Iloilo have waited for too long for the projects to be completed,” Dizon added.
Dizon ordered DPWH-6 Director Denise Ayag, district engineers, and contractors to expedite the completion of unfinished projects.
The P802-million Aganan Flyover in Pavia town remains unfinished six years after construction started in 2020. Construction of the Aganan Flyover was halted in 2022 when the nearby Ungka Flyover was closed following stability issues. Construction only resumed this year with emphasis on jet grouting works to stabilize the soil.
Another is the repair of the Buhang Flyover in Iloilo City, which was closed to traffic in February due to found on its underside.
Works on the flyovers originally lobbied by former Sen. Franklin Drilon have been delayed.
Dizon assured last January that the Aganan Flyover will be completed by December as Christmas gift of the Marcos administration but total completion might happen by first quarter of 2027. The Buhang Flyover was originally set to be completed March.
Another delayed project is the East Timawa Road in Molo, Iloilo City. Dizon said the project delayed for two years is causing massive traffic jams and an inconvenience to students of a nearby college.
Dizon inspected the construction of the building for the College of Law at the West Visayas State University (WVSU) where First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos is a law professor.
