BAGUIO CITY – The city government encouraged people to take advantage of the lighter traffic and more relaxed atmosphere due to the oil crisis to visit the country’s summer capital.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong said the current situation offers a unique opportunity for tourists to enjoy this city without the usual congestion.
“Now is the right time for you to come to Baguio City because we are expecting a very light traffic, with the decrease in the number of visitors easing traffic conditions throughout the city,” Magalong said.
Magalong assured the public that the city remains ready to welcome visitors, with efforts to maintain safety, cleanliness, and a pleasant experience.
"As Baguio faces economic challenges brought about by reduced tourist arrivals, we remain optimistic that travelers can help support local businesses while having a more enjoyable and stress-free visit."
Meanwhile, 300 registered taxi drivers received P3,000 financial assistance each from the city government on Wednesday.
City Social Welfare Officer Liza Bulayungan said they target to distribute the money to 1,537 drivers.
The city government called on operators to enlist their drivers with the City Engineering Office-Traffic and Transportation Management Division.
Jeepney drivers earlier received similar assistance from the city government.
Bulayungan said the fund used by the city government was sourced from the Assistance to individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).
