Manila bakery owners begin receiving P25K aid to keep bread prices steady
Local bakery owners in Manila have started receiving the P25,000 financial assistance from the Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso administration on Tuesday, April 14, marking the rollout of a city program aimed at keeping staple bread prices steady for the next 30 days.
The distribution follows a meeting held on April 9 at Bulwagang Bayan in Manila City Hall, where Domagoso met with community bakers and acknowledged the rising cost of baking inputs.
Under the agreement, participating bakeries receive the P25,000 subsidy in exchange for maintaining current prices of pandesal, pandilimon, monay, and Spanish bread, items commonly consumed by Manila households.
During the meeting, the mayor also presented a cost breakdown, noting that producing a sack of flour-based goods now costs around P2,165, with nearly 70 percent going to flour and yeast, both affected by global oil prices.
City officials said the assistance is intended to ease operational costs for small bakeries, allowing them to keep prices unchanged while continuing to serve their communities.
