Father, son claim self-defense in viral Tondo computer shop killing
What began as a neighborhood dispute that allegedly started on a a basketball court ended in a fatal shooting inside a computer shop in Tondo, Manila, on the morning of April 13. The two suspects now claim they acted in self-defense.
In his account, the younger suspect admitted firing the gun that killed 46-year-old Jhon Jhon Bacolod, saying he believed the victim was about to draw a weapon during a heated confrontation.
According to him, tensions had been brewing days earlier when he was allegedly chased by the victim while playing basketball on Sunday afternoon.
On the day of the incident, the suspect said he approached Bacolod inside the computer shop to ask about the earlier altercation, but was met with curses and threats.
At the height of the tension, the younger suspect claimed he saw the victim about to pull out a weapon, prompting him to fire first.
The firearm, he said, was acquired from an illegal source locally known as “kalakal.”
Meanwhile, the father maintained that he had no intention of killing the victim and was only trying to defend his son.
The suspects also denied that illegal drugs played any role in the incident.
Bacolod was attacked inside a computer shop in Barangay 105 and was rushed to Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center, where he was declared dead.
Authorities continue to investigate the full circumstances surrounding the killing, including the suspects’ claim of self-defense.
