Two masked men on a motorcycle, armed with a revolver and a rifle grenade, were subdued by police after resisting a checkpoint inspection along Roxas Boulevard service road in Barangay 13, Pasay City, early Tuesday, April 15.
Pasay City Police chief Col. Joselito De Sesto identified the suspects as “Trishtan,” 21, a construction worker, and “Jared,” 18, both residents of the city.
According to De Sesto, operatives from Pasay City Police Substation 1 flagged down the pair around 5 a.m. as part of “Oplan Sita” after noticing that they were wearing balaclavas and not wearing helmets.
Instead of stopping, the driver sped off in an attempt to evade arrest, while the back rider allegedly tried to draw a firearm, prompting a brief scuffle with officers.
The suspects were eventually restrained, leading to the recovery of a .38-caliber revolver from Trishtan and a rifle grenade from Jared.
Police said that further investigation revealed that the two were previously involved in snatching incidents.
Authorities are now looking into their possible links to other criminal activities.
The suspects are currently detained at the Pasay City Police custodial facility and are facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9516 (Illegal Possession of Explosives), Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition), and Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code (Resistance and Disobedience to a Person in Authority).
