Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon announced that the local government will acquire more electric vehicles (EVs) to strengthen sustainable transport initiatives as the country grapples with the oil crisis.
Biazon earlier inspected eight EV patrol cars that were given by the city government to the Muntinlupa police.
The electric vehicles are part of Biazon's green technology program.
The city government will have four electric buses that will serve as public shuttles in the city.
“At kung ikukumpara sa traditional patrol cars, mas efficient ang electric dahil mas tipid, unlimited pa ang ikot. Expect more green energy projects. Marami pa tayong naka-line up, kabilang na ang paparating na four electric buses na magsisilbing shuttle sa loob ng lungsod (And compared to traditional patrol cars, electric ones are more efficient because they are more economical, and their range is unlimited. Expect more green energy projects. We have many more lined up, including the upcoming four electric buses that will serve as shuttles within the city),” he said.
Biazon also inspected the charging stations for EVs at the Muntinlupa police headquarters.
“Number one reason bakit natin ito ginawa ay para mapaigting pa ang police visibility sa buong lungsod nang hindi tayo nabibigatan sa gasolina (The number one reason we did this is to increase police visibility throughout the city without burdening us with fuel consumption),” he said.
He said the purchase of electric vehicles was planned even before the Middle East crisis broke out.
“Kahit bago pa ang mga nangyayari sa Middle East, malinaw na sa atin ang direksyon to use green technology para sa energy needs natin. Whether electricity man iyan, transportation, atpb (Even though the events in the Middle East are still new, we are already clear on the direction to use green technology for our energy needs. Whether that is electricity, transportation, etc),” he said.
“Green technology, also known as environmental technology, clean technology or sustainable technology, is a term used to describe environmentally friendly technology. This includes technology that reduces the amount of energy used, technology that recycles materials, and technology that does not produce harmful emissions,” according to Energy Tracker Asia.
Biazon said the electric vehicles were first given to the police as he wanted them to patrol the road more often.
