Two drunk men on a motorcycle were arrested after allegedly attempting to shoot a man in the face, whom they accused of stealing a helmet, in Antipolo City on Sunday, April 12.
Based on the Antipolo Component City Police Station, the incident occurred while the victim and his companions were returning borrowed tents to the barangay outpost at around 9:30 p.m.
Suddenly, the suspects, identified as “Jonel” and “Mark,” arrived on board a motorcycle, who were reportedly drunk, confronted and accused the victim of stealing their helmet.
Authorities said during the confrontation, Jonel suddenly pulled out a firearm and fired two shots directed at the face of the victim, which he managed to evade.
It prompted the victim's companions to intervene, which resulted in a scuffle.
Meanwhile, a barangay staff member was injured after being struck by “Mark” while attempting to pacify him after seeing him draw a firearm from his waist and threaten him, saying, “Wag kang lalapit, babarilin din kita (Don’t come near, I will shoot you).
The suspects were arrested after a concerned citizen reported the incident to nearby police officers.
Authorities recovered a North American Arms Black Widow .22 Magnum revolver loaded with three live .22 bullets and two fired cartridge cases, as well as eight more live .22 bullets from a black sling bag.
The arrested suspects are currently detained at the Antipolo Component City Custodial Facility and will face charges of attempted homicide, grave threats, direct assault, and violation of RA 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).
