'Hindi pa isinama ang diesel': Imee slams PBBM's excise tax suspension announcement

Senator Imee Marcos rued her brother, President Marcos' decision not to include diesel in the short list of petroleum products covered by excise tax suspension.
"Nagtanggal nga sila ng excise tax pero hindi pa nila isinama ang diesel na siyang numero unong ginagamit ng ating mga driver, mangingisda, at magsasaka (They did remove the excise tax, but they still haven’t included diesel, which is the number one fuel used by our drivers, fishermen, and farmers)," Senator Marcos said in a statement to reporters.
On Monday afternoon, April 14, President Marcos announced that he was suspending the excise taxes on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and kerosene.
Pump prices of diesel remain elevated at around P100 per liter. This, even with Tuesday's big-time price rollback on the commodity reaching nearly P21 per liter.
"Wag na sana nilang unti-untiin ang pag aanunsyo kada klase ng produktong petrolyo at idamay na nila ang krudo agad agad (They shouldn’t announce reductions bit by bit for each type of petroleum product, diesel should be included right away)," reckoned the presidential sister.
Senator Marcos also criticized the administration's apparent preference to lean on importation amid the challenges being faced by agricultural workers.
"Sa panahon na nahihirapan ang ating mga magsasaka at mangingisda dahil hindi sila makapag ani at makapalaot dahil sa mataas na presyo ng krudo eh importasyon na naman ang sagot ng ating pamahalaan para sa ating pagkain. Imbes na suportahan ay talaga yatang pinapatay na nila ang agrikultura sa ating bansa."
(At a time when our farmers and fishermen are struggling because they cannot harvest or set out to sea due to the high price of diesel, the government’s answer for our food supply is once again importation. Instead of providing support, it seems they are actually killing agriculture in our country.)
The lady lawmaker also expressed concerns over the immediate future, especially with United States (US) President Donald Trump's latest pronouncement.
"Malas pa ngayong inanunsyo ang pagtanggal ng taxes, nagtaasan na naman ang presyo ng langis sa mundo dahil sa babala ni Pres[ident] Trump na mag-uumpisa ang kanilang military blockade sa Straits of Hormuz," she said.
(Unfortunately, just as the removal of taxes was announced, global oil prices rose again because of President Trump’s warning that they will begin a military blockade in the Straits of Hormuz.)
"Sana sa kabila ng lahat na ito, mapanatili pa rin ang bawas-presyo ng langis dito sa atin, ngayong tayo ang may pinakamatataas na presyo sa buong ASEAN," Senator Marcos further said.
(Hopefully, despite all this, the oil price reduction here can still be maintained, since we currently have the highest prices in all of ASEAN.)
