A 16-year-old back rider was killed, while several others were injured, when a utility van collided with three motorcycles along Marcos Highway in Barangay San Jose, Antipolo City, at around 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 12.
The Antipolo City Police said the fatality, identified only as “Aki,” was declared dead on arrival at a hospital around 7:46 p.m.
Among those injured were a 62-year-old motorcycle driver from Baras, Rizal; a motorcycle rider from Antipolo City; and a 13-year-old back rider identified as “Hiro.”
Authorities said the driver of the utility van, a resident of Bulacan, was arrested following the incident.
Initial investigation showed that the van came from the Dilaw Terminal along Marcos Highway and first collided with one of the motorcycles.
The driver reportedly panicked and fled, running into two more motorcycles and other vehicles.
The suspect was later apprehended by concerned citizens after his vehicle fell into a ravine. He was brought to a hospital, where he is now under police custody.
Police said the injured victims were taken to different hospitals for treatment, while efforts to identify other possible victims are ongoing.
As of this writing, authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
