Maynilad, Manila Water address supply bust in Tondo
A massive pipe leak in Tondo on Sunday has prompted Metro Manila's two water concessionaires to initiate a series of supply restoration activities in affected areas.
In a statement on Monday, April 13, West-zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. reported that its technical teams have been immediately deployed in Sta. Maria Corner Coral St. to address a pipe break, with dewatering activities initiated early Sunday morning.
The cause of the ruptured pipeline has yet to be announced.
“As the affected section is connected to a major primary line, temporary service interruption was necessary to safely complete the repairs, which also affected some areas beyond the immediate vicinity,” it said.
Repairs have gone underway at around 2:30 a.m., as it is gradually building up in the network. Water service is expected to normalize around 11 a.m. in most affected areas in Tondo, however, some may need longer recovery time. Moreover, service tanks are available on standby.
While the water concern is ongoing, East zone concessionaire Manila Water Co. has offered to help the service area through providing emergency support. With the help of cross-border water flows, the water firm said, “Treated water from Manila Water’s distribution network is being shared via existing cross-border connection points to help augment supply and ease the shortage in affected Maynilad-served areas.”
The east zone concession has also deployed five 10-cubic-meter water tankers to ensure residents have access to clean water as an emergency measure amid the high water demand during the summer season.
