'The King's Warden' now the second most watched film of all time in South Korea
The box office hit “The King’s Warden” achieved another record by becoming the second most watched film of all time in South Korea.
Based on the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) data, “The King’s Warden” added 70,659 moviegoers on April 11 for a total of 16,331,396 since its opening on Feb. 4.
With this, “The King’s Warden” overtook the 2019 film “Extreme Job,” which held second place for the all-time rankings with 16,266,641.
The 2014 historical film “The Admiral: Roaring Currents” is still No. 1 in the all-time list with 17,616,661 moviegoers.
The total difference between “The Admiral: Roaring Currents” and “The King’s Warden” is 1,285,265 moviegoers.
As of April 11, “The King’s Warden” has grossed $106.12 million and recorded total admissions of 16.33 million.
“The King’s Warden” reached 16 million moviegoers last April 5 and continues to draw audiences.
It stars Park Ji-hoon, Yoo Hae-jin, Yoo Ji-tae, Jeon Mi-do, Lee Joon-hyuk, and Ahn Jae-hong.
Set in 1457 during the Joseon Dynasty in Korea, the historical film tells the story of King Danjong (Yi Hong-wi), played by Park Ji-hoon, who is betrayed by his uncle and dethroned. He is exiled to Cheongnyeongpo, Yeongwol, Gangwon Province, and encounters the village chief, Eom Heung-do (Yoo Hae-jin).
