'Paglalakbay' closes Ballet Philippines' 56th season on a high note
Ballet Philippines closed its 56th season with the resounding success of the world premiere of “Paglalakbay.” Held at The Theatre at Solaire, this first-of-its-kind ballet was inspired by the folklore of the Ivatan people of Batanes. It served as a glorious eye-opener to the possibilities of strategic collaboration and what such a commingling of creative forces can achieve.
Ballet Philippines receives applause during the gala night of “Paglalakbay.”
Graced by the presence of First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos, “Paglalakbay” was a collaboration with arts patron Sheree Chua, who also wrote the libretto. Mikhail Martynyuk handled the choreography, the music was composed by Ronald Khaw de Leon, and production design was led by Leeroy New. Together, they conjured a magical world of diaspora, maritime travel, friendship, love, and community.
“Paglalakbay” runs until today, and this ballet deserves a wider audience. Those who attended the gala were deeply appreciative of what they witnessed.
