Muntinlupa LGU congratulates Quiambao for bagging basketball Rookie of the Year in Korea
The Muntinlupa City government congratulated basketball player Kevin Quiambao for winning Rookie of the Year in South Korea.
Quiambao is a player of the Korean basketball team Goyang Sono Skygunners under the Korean Basketball League (KBL).
The KBL held its 2025-2026 LG Electronics Professional Basketball Awards Ceremony on April 9 where Quiambao was awarded Rookie of the Year.
He won the award by getting 105 out of 117 votes from the press corps. He won five million won (about $3,368) and a trophy.
Quiambao is a resident of Barangay Bayanan, Muntinlupa.

From being a champion and former two-time UAAP MVP, to his impressive international Gilas Pilipinas stints, KQ has now helped his team, the Goyang Sono Skygunners, make their first-ever playoff appearance),” the Muntinlupa City government posted on Facebook.
It added, “Patunay na kayang makipagsabayan ng talento ng atletang Muntinlupeño sa buong mundo. Nakakaproud! (Proof that the talent of the Muntinlupeño athlete can compete with the rest of the world. So proud!).”
Quiambao debuted in the KBL last season. He played in all 54 games this season, performing well with 15.3 points, 2.1 three-pointers, 6.5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 1.1 steals in an average of 34 minutes and 46 seconds, Korean media reported.
The report added that Goyang Sono Skygunners advanced to the playoffs for the first time in franchise history, led by the formidable trio of Quiambao, Lee Jung-hyun, and Nathan Knight.
“It is a great honor to receive this award. I thank God, my family, and the directors and coaches, as well as the Sono staff. I also want to express my gratitude to the Winners (Sono fans) and the Filipino fans who support the Asian quota in the Philippines,” said Quiambao.
