Will longtime Duterte family critic, former senator Antonio Trillanes IV give any input to the ongoing impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte?
That remains to be seen, according tp House Committee on Justice member, Bicol Saro Party-list Rep. Terry Ridon.
Ridon, during a guesting on April 11 at the Saturday News Forum at Dapo Restaurant in Quezon City, said that "At the moment, wala akong information kung magpapakita si senator Trillanes (I don't have information that senator Trillanes will appear)."
The lawyer-legislator noted, however, that Trillanes has been cited in one of the two active impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte that's pending before the justice committee.
This means it's still possible for the retired Navy lieutenant to be summoned to the proceedings.
“But ang pagkakaalam ko (But as far as I know) he has been mentioned in one of the complaints. So I think we will have to ask one of the complainants or their endorsers if they will ask senator Trillanes to be part of the hearing proper,” Ridon pointed out.
The justice panel will resume its hearings on the determination of probable cause on Tuesday, April 14.
Incidentally, Trillanes was among the first to float the filing of an impeachment complaint against Vice President Duterte.
Back on Nov. 13, 2024, on the sidelines of a House quad-committee (quad-comm) hearing that was attended by former president Rodrigo Duterte, Trillanes said, "Hinog na hinog na [para sa impeachment] (She's very ripe for impeachment)...I'm not saying, ako yung mag-file (that I will file), I'm saying, meron at meron magfa-file (there will surely be a filing)...this is a joint effort."
The following month, the first ever impeachment complaint was filed against the lady official. It ended up being part of 2025 impeachment case against the Vice President.
What did Trillanes say about VP Duterte?
During that same quad-comm hearing, Trillanes-presented slides that he claimed showed "money and paper trail of drug proceeds of [Rodrigo] Duterte and his family".
"Nakalap ko po ito noong 2016, tapos ito po ay na-validate na ng Ombudsman, na kaparehas nga nung naisumite ng AMLC (Anti-Money Laundering Council) sa kanila. Kaya kumpyansa po tayo sa provenance nitong dokumentong ito," he told the House members of the previous 19th Congress.
(I gathered these in 2016, and these have been validated by the Ombudsman as the same as the ones sent to them by the AMLC. That's why I'm confident about these documents' provenance.)
Trillanes alleged that the ex-president set up a bank account with Vice President Duterte wherein drug proceeds flowed into.
"Ang mga total po ng mga credits na pumasok ay P2.4 billion. Ngayon kung ano talaga yung actual total ay malalaman po natin kapag binuksan po natin yung account," said the ex-senator.
(The total credits that were received was P2.4 billion. Now, as to how much is the actual total, we will only find that out if we open up the bank accounts.)
Another slide showed by Trillanes indicated a list of alleged manager's check encashments from the period of October 2011 to April 2013. The checks were allegedly named to the ex-president's children Sara, Pulong, Baste; and his partner, Honeylet Avanceña.
"Ito pong mga ito ay mga manager's check under their name na ang origin po ng account ay yun isa dun sa mga drug lords na minention ni [Arturo] Lascañas na si Sammy Uy," Trillanes said.
(These were the manager's checks under their name, the origin account of which belonged to Sammy Uy, one of the drugs lords mentioned by Lascañas.)
