Davao Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte has been appointed as the new party president of the Partido Demokratikong Pilipino (PDP-Laban) political party.
This was confirmed by Senators Christopher “Bong” Go and Robinhood “Robin” Padilla in separate Facebook posts. Duterte was appointed during the PDP National Council Meeting and ahead of the launching of the Reform Alliance for Good Governance and Accountability (RAGE) Coalition.
The 38-year old mayor is the younger brother of Vice President Sara Duterte and son of former president Rodrigo Duterte, who is facing the crimes against humanity before the International Criminal Court (ICC).
In 2025, he ran as vice mayor of Davao City with his father as running mate, but later on became acting mayor after the former president was arrested on charges related to the Duterte administration’s drug war.
