BACOLOD CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development-Negros Island Region (DSWD-NIR) has released a total of P155.34 million in fuel subsidies to 31,068 tricycle drivers during a three-day payout held from April 8 to 10.
The number represents 89.88 percent of the agency’s target of 34,977 tricycle drivers who received P5,000 each in Negros Occidental, including this highly-urbanized city, and Negros Oriental.
The DSWD-NIR assured the public that they will continue working to deliver government assistance to vulnerable sectors to improve living conditions and promote inclusive growth in the region.
The city government urged drivers who were not able to receive the subsidy to file an appeal for possible inclusion in the program.
Appeals were accepted at the city’s help desk until 7 p.m. on Friday, April 10.
The city government met transportation network vehicle service (TNVS) drivers on Sunday, April 12, at the Bacolod City Government Center for orientation and document verification for government aid processing.
The assistance forms part of the national government’s efforts to ease the burden on the transport sector suffering from rising fuel prices linked to tensions in the Middle East.
